Today’s question: “How do you write a good scholarship essay?”
There are many things to keep in mind when writing a scholarship essay. Ashley, our scholarship expert, will help break down the steps that will hopefully lead you to the finish line and the winner’s circle! Whether you’re a high school student going to college, a college student going to graduate school, or an adult going back to school, this video will help you write a great essay for your scholarship applications.
First, pay attention to the specific scholarship essay prompt or question. Some scholarship providers may want you to write about something specific, such as why you chose your major, and others may let you write about the topic of your choice. Once you know your prompt, brainstorm some ideas related to the topic. From there, try to narrow down your list of ideas to one that you can use to tell a personal story. Scholarship committees like to read essays that help them understand who you are, what your life is like, and how certain events have influenced your life. Just be sure to stay on topic – if your essay does not answer the prompt, you may be disqualified. Scholarship providers also penalize students if they fail to follow the word count or use improper grammar, so be sure to have someone proofread your essay. Best of luck writing your wining scholarship essay today!
