Have you noticed all the Christmas decorations going up in stores lately? Heck, even Santa Claus has already set up shop in my local mall. It seems as though November is quickly becoming the new December. Before we get ‘wrapped’ up in the Christmas spirit, let’s not forget that November is a time to thank military veterans for their service to our country and a time to gather for the Thanksgiving meal. For my family, Thanksgiving has always been a cherished tradition of stuffing our faces, watching football and taking a long afternoon nap. But before we devour mom’s glorious turkey, we also take a few moments to express what we are thankful for this past year. As a college graduate, that list has often included scholarships (I am definitely grateful for having less student loan debt!). So, in the spirit of Thanksgiving, I’m providing you with some tasty scholarships that are available right now. Just be sure to set aside some time to complete their applications before the month ends, or you’ll feel like a turkey for letting this money slip through your hands! Read the rest of this entry »
Eleven years ago, I was sitting in my car and stuck in morning traffic. I vividly remember listening to the radio and hearing that a plane had ‘accidentally’ flown into one of the World Trade Center Towers. A few moments later, I walked into the local bowling alley and found everyone hovering around the televisions. No one was moving and their faces were contorted with looks of disbelief and horror. I had assumed a small prop plane had made the mistake of getting too close to the buildings, but I could see from the damage that it was much more serious. As we began debating how a commercial jet could possibly hit one of the towers, another sliced through the other tower. I instantly dropped to my knees and began to sob; it was as if I could hear those innocent souls screaming out for help, but I could do nothing.

But never fear…ScholarshipExperts.com is here to help lighten your load! If you can’t find the time to search for scholarships this month, be sure to check out our list of scholarships with upcoming September deadlines. Read the rest of this entry »
August is National Golf Month, but if you are a true golfer, you know every month is golf month in Florida; with over 1,051 courses to choose from, you’ll never have any trouble getting a tee time in the Sunshine State. It is estimated that 25.7 million people over the age of six played golf in the United States in 2011, spending more than $75 billion on equipment and other fees. And thanks to golfers like Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy, it’s becoming even more popular among younger children. Students no longer have to play football or basketball to score free money for college. Many organizations now offer scholarships for those who enjoy spending their time on the green. Some might say that golf is much easier than football or basketball, but consider this – the chances of making a hole-in-one twice in a round of golf are 1 in 67 million. That’s pretty amazing. Thank goodness your chances for scoring a golf scholarship are much better.

August is always filled with a flurry of excitement, as we try to squeeze out every last drop of summer fun before saying farewell to sleeping in late and hanging out with our friends. It’s easy to forget about your college planning tasks with all the excitement of back-to-school preparations, but you should still pencil out some time in your busy calendar to apply for scholarships. Whether you’re a traditional student or an adult learner, make sure these August scholarships are on your to-do list! Read the rest of this entry »
Every year, someone publishes a list of weird or wacky scholarships, but it always seems like the same scholarships are listed year after year. The list is bound to include the Kor Memorial Scholarship (popular with those who speak Klingon), the Stuck at Prom Scholarship (Duck Tape) and, of course, the infamous duck calling scholarship (otherwise known as the Chick and Sophie Major Memorial Duck Calling Contest). In fact, these so-called wacky scholarships have become so well-known that they no longer qualify as ‘weird’ in my book. So, we scoured the Web looking for something truly new and unique; we wanted to find programs that require an unusual hobby, career or characteristic to add to our annual list. Here are the programs made our Truly Weird Scholarships List.

There’s been so much media attention surrounding Zombies that not even a statement from the CDC has been able to assuage the masses. Read the rest of this entry »
Summer is my favorite time of the year. I spend my weekends wandering the local farmer’s market gathering fresh fruit and veggies, followed by a relaxing nap in the warm summer sun. There’s so much to do during the summer, too. It’s a perfect time to take a family road trip, learn how to sail or just bike over to your favorite ice cream spot for a delicious cone or sundae; the possibilities are endless. What you may not know is there are several scholarships attached to these fun summer activities. Most students know about academic scholarships and need-based scholarships, but few realize that working in an ice cream parlor, traveling or even surfing can land you some cool cash, too. Check out this short list of fun summer scholarships just waiting for you.

Did you know that over nine million American students between the ages of 6 and 19 are obese? That’s one statistic that needs to change. You can do your part by being active at school and at home. Get involved in activities, such as walking, biking or playing organized sports. Physical activity not only helps you control your weight, but also helps improve your mental health and mood. There can also be an additional benefit to participating in sports – scholarships! Most colleges offer an array of sports scholarships, with most going to football, basketball and baseball players. However, there are other scholarship opportunities available through private sponsors, such as: Read the rest of this entry »
On April 22, more than 1 billion people across the globe will celebrate Earth Day, as over 192 countries host awareness events that promote everything from recycling to alternative energy sources. You, too, can do your part. Plant a tree, start a recycling program or replace the light bulbs in your home. It is said that if every home swapped just one incandescent bulb with an LED or a CFL, it could reduce greenhouse gas emissions in an amount that is equivalent to the emissions from 800,000 cars; that’s pretty impressive and yet so simple to do. Many students are passionate about making changes to help protect the Earth, and several companies are eager to help them by providing scholarship opportunities for those who seek a ‘greener’ life. If you consider yourself an environmentalist or an Earth warrior, check out the scholarship opportunities just waiting for you. Read the rest of this entry »
I love this time of year: the weather is getting warmer, the nights are longer, and it’s time for Spring Break! Unfortunately, I won’t be headed to the warm beaches of the Caribbean; I’m stuck at home this year.
