Spring Into Action With These March Scholarships!

Who knew that when Punxsutawney Phil declared there would be another six weeks of winter that most of the East Coast would be buried under mountains of snow? Enough already! Luckily, college financial aid doesn’t keep the same time table as our famous groundhog friend. Regardless of the temperature outside, there are always some scholarships available to help warm up your student bank account — like these fun March scholarships just waiting to spring into action.

Scholarship Resources for African American Students

As many students still struggle to pay for a college education, a troubling new trend has emerged among some of the largest scholarship programs dedicated to helping African American students — unused money is being returned to scholarship donors. Why? Either the students eligible for the programs are unaware that they exist or they may be unwilling to complete the lengthy scholarship applications. In fact, the President and CEO of the Thurgood Marshall College Fund, Johnny C. Taylor, stated that he has given back money over the last three years due to incomplete applications, according to an article in the Atlanta Black Star.

10 Groundhog Day Scholarships

In case you didn’t know, today is Groundhog Day. Punxsutawney Phil will be making his annual appearance and letting the world know whether we will be in for more cold weather or an early spring. Let’s hope it’s the latter. But, “Groundhog Day” is also one of my favorite Bill Murray movies. Its premise is fairly simple; Phil Connors (played by Bill Murray) is sent to cover the Groundhog Day festivities at Gobbler’s Knob (PA), but he gets stuck in a never-ending replay of the day. Of course, hilarity ensues as he tries various ways to change the outcome until he finally gets it right. I know a few scholarships that are just like the movie. They’ll give you tons of chances to try, try again, and you can keep applying until you win. Where can you find these Groundhog’s Day scholarships? There’s no need to dig around the Internet. I’ve listed several of them right here.

They can help you achieve the gift that keeps on giving — a college education.

Fight Stereotypes and You Could Win a $10,000 Scholarship

Educate. Don’t discriminate. That’s the message behind Unigo’s new $10,000 Scholarship — Resist the Ist: Defy Stereotypes. It’s a pretty powerful campaign, especially in light of many racially-charged events that have happened across the world. But, here’s the thing. It’s not simply a message of tearing down color barriers and fighting racism. Unigo is actually opening up a much broader conversation with this unique scholarship opportunity. If you think about it, most of us have been victims of stereotypes or have made assumptions about others at one time or another. I know that I have been on both sides of the fence. It may seem harmless, but words and labels can cause serious damage. And sometimes, we don’t even realize that we’re inflicting pain on others.
