On August 28, 1963, more than 250,000 people converged on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C. to hear Martin Luther King, Jr. deliver his now infamous “I Have a Dream’” speech. It is one of the most acclaimed orations in our country’s history, and helped define the American Civil Rights Movement. Unfortunately, five decades later, we are still fighting for equality and acceptance for all, regardless of color, gender, religion, or sexual orientation. Yes, there have been steps in the right direction, but we still have a long way to go. Thankfully, there are many organizations and schools that continue to support Dr. King’s vision, and recognize underrepresented students who have taken the extraordinary step not only to pursue a higher education, but also work toward keeping Dr. King’s dream alive. Here are just a few of the many wonderful scholarships and programs that promote equality, and help financially support students who embody Dr. King’s values and spirit of inclusion.
