Awards are based on the average tuition and fees charged by the institution or the tuition and fee maximums established in law for the State Grant Program and the difference between what students and their families are expected to contribute to pay for the education and the actual price of attending a particular college or university. The maximum award for 2012-2013 will range from about $6,848 at a public two-year college to $9,620 at a private four-year college. The average award typically ranges from $1,500 to $1,800. The minimum award is $100 per year. Awards are renewable for an additional six full-time semesters or nine quarters (or their equivalent). Recipients must maintain consecutive full-time enrollment and must re-apply each year.
- Varies, the number of awards offered each year is subject to the number of eligible students and the amount of funds available.
