Scholarship Award Categories

National

This category is filled with awards that have no residency or institutional requirements. National awards may have a variety of other restrictions, such as race, major, career plans, and test scores, but they will not be restricted by the city, state or county information of the recipients, nor will they be limited by the institutions indicated on the student profile.

State

These awards are restricted by the applicant’s state residency. In addition to other requirements, these awards require students to live in specific states within the U.S.

Local

Awards in this category are primarily awarded based on the applicant’s city or county residency, although some of these awards require attendance at a specific high school as well. Additional eligibility requirements are generally listed as well.

Institutional

These awards are given only to students who attend or plan to attend specified colleges and/or universities. Additional eligibility requirements are generally listed as well.

Global (International)

This category is filled with international student awards that have no residency, citizenship or institutional requirements. Global awards may have a variety of other restrictions, such as gender, major, career plans, and test scores, but they will not be restricted by the citizenship or country residency of the recipients,nor will they be limited by the institutions indicated on the student profiles.

Location-Specific (International)

These awards are restricted either by the applicant’s citizenship or country residency. In addition to other requirements, these awards require students to be from a specified country or to be of a certain nationality.

Institutional (International)

These awards are given only to international students who attend or plan to attend specified colleges and/or universities in the United States. Additional eligibility requirements are generally listed as well.
