Humanist Essay Contest

This contest is open to students enrolled in grades 9-12 as of the submission deadline. Entrants must submit an essay of 1,500 to 2,500 words concerning any subject or field of endeavor in a humanist context.

Please note: Although the application deadline for this award has passed, we wanted you to know about this award as a possibility for next year. Often, scholarship providers offer similar scholarships each year. This award is scheduled to be updated within the next few months. Please check back for more information at a later date.

Award Amount:

The first-prize winner receives a $1,000 prize, a three-year membership to the AHA, and an invitation to present his/her essay at the Annual Conference of the American Humanist Association (does not include travel expenses). The second-prize winner receives a 'Humanist' library and a a three-year membership to the AHA. The third-prize winner receives a three-year membership to the AHA. Honorable mention winners receive a one-year membership to the AHA.

One scholarship award offered annually, as well as several non-scholarship prizes.
