U.S. college sophomores or juniors who have a grade point average of 'B' or higher are eligible for this award. Students must be majoring in a field related to the environment.

Scholarship recipients will receive the following: a scholarship of $5,000 annually, non-renewable (students may apply for funding in both their sophomore and junior years), for tuition, room and board, or other educational expenses; and access to a network of environmental policy professionals through the Udall Alumni listserv. Honorable Mentions may join the alumni listserv.
- 50 awards offered annually. In addition to scholarship recipients, 50 honorable mentions will be named.
