This award is available to New Mexico residents who are practicing health occupations in allied health professionals, physicians or physician's assistants, advanced practice nurses, osteopathic physicians and osteopathic physician's assistants, dentists, optometrists, or podiatrists. Students must be licensed and/or certified in the state of New Mexico to practice and must sign a contract committing to serve at an eligible employment site in New Mexico.

The maximum allowable award is $25,000 per year. For eligible students who are working in a federal Health Professional Shortage Areas (HPSA), awards are for up to $35,000 annually. Awards will be determined by an applicant's overall reported educational debt at the time of application. Awards are made in quarterly payments directly to their lender upon verification of employment for the quarter. Recipients will be required to sign a contract committing to serve at an eligible employment site for a period of two years. Eligibility for funding will be reviewed on an annual basis and may be adjusted due to changes in annual income or changes in legislative funding. Recipients are eligible for renewal upon completion of their two-year obligation.
