U.S. high school seniors, college freshmen, and college sophomores who are currently enrolled or plan to enroll full time in a physics program are eligible for this award. Students must be African American, Hispanic American or Native American.

$2,000 annually, renewable for one year. Renewal is granted with approval of the APS Selection Committee, and the renewal award is worth $3,000 annually. Awards may be used for tuition, room, board or educational materials. In addition, each student is paired with both a local mentor at their institution, and an APS mentor. These physicist mentors provide support and assistance to the students as they navigate their education and plan for future careers.
