This scholarship is available for U.S. undergraduate students who plan to study or intern abroad in the same country for at least four weeks; the country cannot be Cuba or on the U.S. State Department's Travel Warning list. Students must be receiving or will receive a federal Pell Grant.
Please note: Although the application deadline for this award has passed, we wanted you to know about this award as a possibility for next year. Up to $5,000 annually, non-renewable. The average award is $4,000. Recipients must use the award to defray eligible study or intern abroad costs. These costs include program tuition, room and board, books, local transportation, insurance and international airfare. Gilman Scholarship recipients can only receive the scholarship once. If a student previously declined the Gilman Scholarship, he/she is welcome to re-apply, as long as he/she still meets all eligibility requirements.
