This award is available for U.S. and Canadian students in grades seven through twelve who submit an original, previously unpublished essay of 700 to 1,000 words discussing a scientific discovery, theory, event, or technological application that has captured the student's interest.
Please note: Although the application deadline for this award has passed, we wanted you to know about this award as a possibility for next year. Awards are given as follows for both the junior (grades 7-9) and senior (grades 10-12) divisions: first place, a $5,000 U.S. savings bond; second place, a $3,000 U.S. savings bond; third place, a $2,000 U.S. savings bond; and honorable mention, a $200 U.S. savings bond. All first- through third-place winners will also receive an expenses-paid trip to the Kennedy Space Center and Walt Disney World Resort with a parent. Previous winners may apply again.
