This scholarship is available for undergraduate and graduate North Carolina students who are under 25 at time of application and plan to attend or are attending a North Carolina college. Students must have a veteran parent who is rated by USDVA as 100 percent disabled due to wartime service as defined in the law, and be currently or at time of death drawing compensation for such disability.

This award is for free tuition and exemption from certain mandatory fees as set forth in the law in public, community and technical colleges/institutions OR $1,500 per nine-month academic year in private colleges and junior colleges. The award is renewable for three additional academic years if used within eight years of the award date.
- The number of awards offered varies each year; there is no maximum limit on the number of awards that can be given each year. In past years, between 297 and 334 awards have been offered.
There is no deadline for this award. Applications are accepted throughout the year. To obtain an application, the student should contact his/her local Veterans Service Officer.
